Finnish cellist Liina Leijala is currently Director of Barenboim-Said Foundation Ramallah. She also holds a position at the Wiener Musikakademie in Vienna, Austria.
Liina Leijala graduated from Sibelius Academy in Finland and continued her studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna as well as in Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia.
Previously she has worked as the solo cellist of Orchestra Academy Ossiach (from Vienna Philharmonic), cellist at Barbirolli Quartet, and cellist at Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
She has performed both as soloist and chamber musician all over the world, and has been finalist or price winner in competitions like the EBU Young Soloists, Gaetano Zinetti etc.
Leijala plays a Vincenzo Postiglione cello from 1896, thanks to Finnish Culture Foundations generous support.
